We are proud to celebrate Turning Point of Tampa’s 33rd anniversary. Since 1987, we have helped instill the promise of hope for recovery in each client as they reach the turning point in their life.
Our commitment to delivering exceptional care has been recognized by both the Joint Commission—the “gold standard” for all healthcare facilities—and the Florida Department of Children and Families. We are accredited and licensed by both agencies, respectively.
History of Turning Point of Tampa
In Turning Point of Tampa’s early days, we provided an extended care program for individuals transitioning out of a structured primary treatment environment back into daily life. Our extended care program was based on a 12-step philosophy, reinforcing a commitment to personal responsibility and accountability.
To better equip our clients to succeed in their life outside of primary treatment, our early program also focused on strengthening the life skills needed to succeed.
In 1987 we rented housing for our clients, as well as office space for group and individual therapy and 12-step meetings. In the late 1990s a new CEO, Robin Piper, joined the staff. A therapeutic community was created that consisted of on campus housing (which we call “The Village”) and a residential services building. In 2006 we built our intensive outpatient center and recreation center.
As our industry is often faced with turbulence and acquisitions, Turning Point of Tampa is proud to have a long-time owner to offer consistency and stability.
Turning Point of Tampa Today
Over the years, our focus has evolved to include primary treatment programs for substance use disorders, eating disorders and dual diagnosis. Our continuum of care now incorporates licensed primary residential treatment, extended care treatment, day treatment, intensive outpatient treatment, and an aftercare group.
Group therapy and individual therapy, coupled with the principles of 12-step recovery, remain the foundation of our programs. Our clinical staff consists of Master’s Level therapists, 2 Doctors that are Board Certified in Addiction Medicine and Psychiatry, several Nurses and a Nutritionist.
We believe that combining the best evidence-based therapeutic approaches and a 12-step philosophy promotes mind-body healing and offers the best outcomes for long-term recovery. Our innovative programs seek to enhance healing through art group, recreation, equine therapy, accelerated resolution therapy, yoga, and mindful meditation. We have worked very hard to keep our treatment programs affordable and continue to be an In-Network provider.
Our ongoing support groups are available to alumni and their families. We also offer several annual alumni events, as well as 12- step meetings where alumni and those in active recovery can connect.
Our Hope for the Future
As one of the original providers of treatment services in the Tampa community, we remain committed to the message of hope embodied in the recovery journey. A testament to our company culture is that approximately 80% of our staff are in recovery and are alumni of our program. In addition, one-fifth of our staff members have been employees for 10 or more years and have a combined 200 years of service at Turning Point of Tampa. In short, we are dedicated to your long-term recovery.
Since our inception, we have helped approximately 15,000 people navigate their recovery journey. Our mission to help people change their lives by committing to recovery has never wavered. We remain steadfast to our principles.
Throughout the decades, our mission has been the same: to respect the dignity of every employee, family member and client we serve.
Turning Point of Tampa’s goal is to always provide a safe environment and a solid foundation in 12-Step recovery, in tandem with quality individual therapy and groups. We have been offering Licensed Residential Treatment for Addiction, Eating Disorders and Dual Diagnosis in Tampa since 1987.
