Family Support Group

At Turning Point of Tampa, we have seen how vital family support is to recovery. It is important to note that when a person suffers from an addiction, their family does too.

At Turning Point of Tampa, we have seen how vital family support is to recovery. It is important to note that when a person suffers from an addiction, their family does too.

Many family members, loved ones and friends struggle with codependence, which enables addiction. Often we find that family members have little to no understanding about the disease of addiction or what it means to recover from it. Therefore, education about the illness is crucial to understanding and acceptance. It is for these reasons that our Family Support Group was formed.

Lead by our Clinical Director, Robin Piper, LMHC, MCAP, NCC, CCTP, our weekly family support group is free of charge to any family member of a current or former client. This ongoing support is available to assist in the family member’s personal recovery journey. This not only gives family members much-needed ongoing support, but it enables them to continue gaining insight as they navigate through their own recovery.

This way of life is often new to family members as well, and they must also learn tools to adapt to the recovery lifestyle. Everyone involved in the recovery process will need to learn healthy behaviors to encourage healthy growth. Family should evaluate their own triggers and work with the person in recovery to develop a new, healthy strategy that encourages the recovery of everyone involved.

We are committed to providing resources to family members to give them the support and education they need to help their loved one, other family members, and themselves, to heal.
