Staff Member: Jon Jasper, LMHC
Eating Disorders Therapist, Residential Treatment Program; Master’s Degree, Education and Counseling
Jon went to school at the University of Louisville where he also earned a Bachelor’s degree in Art and Psychology. His qualifications for the position he now holds include his degrees, of course, but along with that, he brings his experience, strength and hope to clients with a history of addiction both to substance abuse and eating disorders.
Adderall was Jon’s primary addiction, but like a good addict he was not averse to trying and abusing multiple substances, and along with that, he developed an eating disorder.
Jon was brought up in a religious home and his father was very anti-treatment, but his parents knew Jon was in trouble. Eventually Jon ended up in the emergency room due to issues with his heart. That’s when his parents realized that he may die without some type of intervention; that, and the fact that the doctor actually said those words!
After 90 days of residential treatment for both issues, Jon left to resume his life. He currently attends 12-Step meetings for two different addictions on a regular basis, has two sponsors and follows a food plan.
So, the man is qualified.
John once told me that when working with his clients, he “loves to dismantle the disease of addiction!”
He has done art therapy in the past and likes to read, mostly nonfiction books, practice yoga and lift weights to relax. He told me he gets enough drama at work and tries to strive for balance in his work and his life.
His favorite quote: “Perfectionism is self-destructive simply because perfection does not exist; it is an unattainable goal.”
Words to live by, indeed.
Thanks, Jon.
