This is a partial listing of the therapeutic groups
we offer. Additional groups are developed and implemented
depending on the treatment needs of the clients we are
serving. Individualized treatment planning will determine
which groups each client will attend.
Client Activities: Group focus allows
clients to participate in recreational activities while
maintaining their chemical dependency or food abstinence.
Clients participate in various activities and 12-Step
meetings. Attendance and participation may be mandatory
depending on treatment level. Clients are directly involved
in selecting recreational activities.
30-Day Process Group: Focuses on breaking
through the denial systems and acknowledging powerlessness
and consequences of the disease. This is facilitated
by the presentation of assignments such as life story,
1st Step, consequences of use (physical, emotional,
spiritual), and relapse warning signs.
Extended Process Group: This group
is designed to work on issues that surface after a period
of sobriety/abstinence. Extended group looks at underlying
issues of addiction and issues that trigger or lead
to relapse. Some of the topics that are processed include
relationships, personal boundaries, family of origin,
abuse, trauma, and dysfunctional thought patterns. This
group helps clients become aware of the issues which
affect their everyday living.
Family Roles Group: Family Roles Group
is designed to help clients get a realistic look at
the messages they received from either their family
of origin or their current family. Clients are asked
to begin by selecting peers to play family members.
They then assign that peer a verbal message that they
most often heard from that particular family member
and place that person in a proximity appropriate for
the relationship. When the whole family has been sculpted
by the client, they are encouraged to listen to the
message they received and verbalize their own feelings
about being in that family.
Community Big Group: The community
group helps clients learn appropriate communication,
problem solving, and confrontation skills. The focus
is on bringing up concerns for peers appropriately and
learning to be open to hearing feedback on your own
and other's behaviors. This group also allows time for
planning community activities, events, and responsibilities.
Lecture: The lectures are designed
to provide clients with educational information about
their disease and the issues that surround the disease.
Education is also provided in areas such as HIV, medication,
codependency, family issues, and nutrition.
Spirituality Group: This group is designed
to educate clients about how spirituality is viewed
in 12-Step programs and discuss how a Higher Power is
utilized to maintain recovery. The 12-Steps are reviewed
with the clients and there are discussions regarding
concept, development, and maintenance of a relationship
with a Higher Power of the client's understanding.
Relapse Prevention Group: There are
two types of groups used in this program. Orchestrated
process groups and workshops. The orchestrated process
group is designed to help clients identify early behavior
patterns that sabotage their recovery. Once identified
as a pattern, clients are refocused on the strengths
they possess as a result of that trait. The workshop
is designed to allow clients to develop specific exercises
where they can practice new skills using the strengths
developed from the process group. Both groups help clients
identify how they react behaviorally when certain feelings
are triggered.
Trauma Group: This group is designed
to give clients a safe, nurturing environment in which
they can work on issues that are more emotionally intense.
This would include sexual, physical, or verbal abuse,
grief and loss issues, and other issues that are traumatic
in nature. Trauma group utilizes a series of modalities
including but not limited to psychodrama, anger reduction,
mock funeral, role playing, etc.
Men's/Women's Group: This group was
designed to aid clients in feeling comfortable dealing
with gender specific issues. Clients are encouraged
to talk specifically about issues they believe appropriate
for same sex discussions.
Small Evening Process Group: This group
allows clients an additional opportunity to process
the day's events, feelings, assignments, or obstacles
they may be facing. The atmosphere is more relaxed and
groups are held at the village.
Eating Disorder Process Group: This
group is used to facilitated the recovery process, focusing
specifically on issues of food and consequences of eating
disorders. Groups are "feeling based" and
assignments are presented for group feedback and interaction.
Body Image Group: Designed to help
clients begin to develop a realistic perception of their
bodies. A therapist leads this process by guiding clients
through mirror work, body drawings, and stringings.
Clients are also encouraged to begin to accept and affirm
their bodies and realize the effects of punishing their
bodies by bingeing, restricting, or overeating.
Nutrition Group: Designed to educate
the clients to their individualized food plan and nutritional
needs. Led by a registered dietician this group meets
weekly and deals with only food related questions and
issues that clients may have concerning their nutritional
requirements.
Education Group: This group focuses
on the progression of eating disorders and the 12-Step
philosophy. Clients focus on the addictive nature of
their eating disorder and how it relates to them physically,
emotionally, mentally, and spiritually.
