| Signs and
Symptoms of Narcotic/Opiate Abuse:
Although the term narcotic is often used when referring
to all drugs........
Narcotics are drugs derived from opium (heroin, morphine,
codeine, opium, methadone, etc). Abused for their euphoric
effects, these analgesic drugs produce an altered interpretation
of painful stimuli, decreased anxiety, and promote sedation.
Because the most popular administration of these drugs
is IV, the associated health concerns specific to IV
drug use and sharing needles (HIV, AIDS, hepatitis)
are increased.
