Mushroom/Peyote Abuse

Signs and Symptoms of Hallucinogen (Mushroom, Peyote) Abuse:

In addition to PCP, other commonly abused hallucinogens include LSD, Psilocybin (mushrooms), and Peyote (a cactus plant containing mescaline).

Hallucinogens are commonly associated with panic attacks at the height of the drug experience. Unsolicited repetitions of the drug experience (flashbacks) without further ingestion of the drug are also characteristic of hallucinogen use.

» Extremely dilated pupils
» Warm skin, excessive perspiration
» Distorted sense of sight, hearing, touch
» Distorted image of self
» Distorted perception of time
» Mood and behavior changes
» Unpredictable flashback episodes
» Disorientation
» Fear, terror
» Deadened sensory perception (may experience severe injury while appearing not to notice)
» Symptoms of intoxication
» Unpredictable behavior; may swing from passive to violent for no apparent reason
