When one member of a family is suffering from chemical
dependency or an eating disorder the whole family is
affected. Family involvement is vital to the ongoing
recovery of the client and to the healing of family
relationships. Therefore, Turning Point encourages family
members to participate fully in the treatment experience
via therapy sessions and/or the Family Program.
Turning Point recognizes that in order for the individual
to heal it is best for the family to take part in the
recovery process. Therefore, regardless of level of
care, the family program is available to all clients.
The three day weekend Family Program greatly assists
the recovery process by helping loved ones gain insight
into the disease process and how it impacts the family
unit. Clients and their family and/or significant other
work together to solve problems together and provide
emotional support for each other. Family counseling
also identifies dysfunctional family situations that
may contribute to the cycle of substance abuse, depression,
and eating disorders. Turning Point focuses on helping
each family member gain a better of understanding of
how he/she has been personally affected by the client's
disease. Family members meet individually with counselors
and attend group therapies. Telephone sessions are available
for those families not able to attend. Family members
and/or significant other(s) are provided with educational
material and take an active role in the assessment phase
of treatment.
